Problem using printer

This problem started with installing a new HP Officejet Pro 8720 printer with a Windows 10 PC.

Although the installation software detected the correct printer on the network, it nevertheless refused to install it until the Livesafe firewall was turned off. Once installation was complete, and the firewall turned on, the printer worked in all its functonality (well- nearly all).

However, everytime the PC is turned on, the printer is totally disabled and it is necessary to remove it from 'Devices and Printers', turn off the firewall, reinstall it and then turn the firewall back on.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that something in the firewall is blocking the initialisation and installation of the printer. The question is what?

For information: I have successfully installed the printer on another Windows 10 PC without problem. I cannot see any visible difference between the way the two Livesafe firewalls are configured.

Doe anyone have any solutions please.

Re: Problem using printer

@iangsho

Could you please share more details on this issue.

How is the printer connected to the PC? i.e. USB/Ethernet cable or Wireless?

The version of McAfee antivirus installed on the PC?

Cheers

Sanjay

Re: Problem using printer

Thanks for you response.

The printer is connected via WiFi.

I am using:

Livesafe V16.0. including

Firewall V18.2

Virus scan V21.2

Now to navigate that wretched CAPTHA which is nearly impossible get through.

Re: Problem using printer

I have just run a quick test by removing my other half's printer and verified that this cannot be reinstalled without turning off the firewall either.

Re: Problem using printer

Thanks for your reply.

Solution 1: Sounds drastic. Can I save that one for now.
Solution 2: You say 'add desired port'. What port should I desire to add. There is nothing in the list about printers or print services.
Solution 3: This I have already tried with no effect.

Thanks once again.

Re: Problem using printer

Interesting development.
Windows installed an update yesterday and the problem has mysteriously gone away (along with two other less annoying issues).
Thank you for your help anyway.
