Also please make sure you are current and up to date with all of your Windows Updates, to include Internet Explorer. McAfee and other programs require it to be, in order to function properly.

I cannot get Safe Key to install with Chrome (v37, 32 bit)
All the instructions appear to work, but the extension does not appear. It works fine with IE.
I've also got a "This device needs to be online to get the latest protection updates." message for my PC, which is odd, since I can only get to see this message when I go on line ... (don't know if the 2 issues are related).
I've tried full uninstall & re-install of all McAfee software, Virtual Technician, online Tier 2 support ...
In Firefox or Chrome, for instance, it needs to be enabled. Have you followed all the instructions as per the link already given> (Here: How to install SafeKey on a PC or Mac ) ?
