Standalone HIP desktop unmanaged usage

Jump to solution

I have installed MFEagent.msi (5.61) and McAfeeHIP_ClientSetup.exe (8.0 patch12) on a desktop PC.

I see the tray icon of McAfee Agent and have About and Update option from its menu.

On some web videos (older version than the ones I installed) clicking on this icon popup a menu that has a "Configuration" option...

How can I get this option in order to configure it locally on this desktop PC ?

Hi @maxtPaul

The McAfee Host IPS product is designed for ePO-management only; it is not supported in standalone configuration.

If you would like standalone management, please use the McAfee Endpoint Security product.

Could you please guide me to the right P/N we need to procure in order to get the complete working HIP setup ?

We currently only need to install on a single PC.

But if mandatory, we could install the other software (ePO?) onto another PC to have a working HIP system.

Not sure what you meant by P/N, but here are the product guides/details:

HIPS Install Guide - https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=PD22891

HIPS Product Guide - https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=PD22894

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator - https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-us/products/epolicy-orchestrator.html

All product documentation - https://docs.mcafee.com/

If your company is licensed to use McAfee ENS, I would suggest switching to that product (ENS Threat Prevention is similar to VirusScan Enterprise, and ENS Exploit Prevention/Firewall is related to HIPS IPS/Firewall functionality), as the ENS product can be managed by an ePO server or used for Standalone systems.  If you aren't sure you are licensed for ENS, you may need to speak with someone internal at your company, or contact McAfee Sales or Customer Service (https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-us/home/contact-us.html).
