McAfee services still present on system after removal

Server admin reported that McAfee services (McAfee Firewall Core, McAfee Service Controller, and McAfee Valadation Trust) are still showing installed after running the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to remove all products remotely. When running the tool manually on the local box, HIPS reports as Unknown. Need to determine both why the services remained after removal and why HIPS is in an unknown state.

Re: McAfee services still present on system after removal

Hi @jtrain ,

Thankyou for reaching us on community !

Was the machine rebooted after uninstallation was complete ?

Also, i would recommend checking the EPR log file (removal tool logs) present in C:\windows\temp\McAfee logs or %temp%/McAfeeLogs ; for keyword : cert or certificate to check if that reported and missing root certificate.

If, it says and root certificate is missing, i would recommend updating root certificate either by using the EPR tool feature to update root certificate  or by following the steps in KB87096 mentioned under "solution" for "Import the certificates that are needed to validate the digital signatures " as "option 2" .

I hope you find this helpful.
