Isn't ENS replacing HIPS ?

Jump to solution

Looking at deploying ENS and was under the impression that ENS replaces VSE and HIPS.

But deploy ENS only auto-uninstall VSE.  Why is HIPS still remaining running?

Which module of ENS can replace HIPS?  There are so many of them.

Hi @kokms

HIPS is not automatically un-installed as there are still certain HIPS server based functionalities that are not included in ENS (IPS SQL signatures for example). If you wish ENS to remove HIPS client too you need to specify that via command line.

See Installation Guide for more info: PD26800 or PD27565

HIPS.jpg

- HIPS 8 FW is replaced by ENS Firewall
- HIPS 8 IPS is replaced be ENS Thread Protection Exploit prevention and Access Protection

To clarify, this /override"hips" command line entry would be added under the Command line value for the ENS Security Platform product in a McAfee Agent deployment product task.

ENS and Host IPS 8.0 are designed to co-exist together, until such time as you no longer need or use HIPS on the system (at which point, you would run an uninstall deployment task for Host IPS 8.0).  See PD26800 Page 18 section "If McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention is installed".
