How to unhide the HIPS 7.0 entry in Windows XP installed software

Jump to solution

Hello,

is there any possibility to unhide the HIPS 7.0 in Windows installed software to remove this component? It’s very inconvenient to remove the HIPS using the KB article for manually removal. It would be fine, if I can also remove the HIPS using Windows installed software, like the VSE component.

regards and greetings from Germany

Janni

Unlock the Host IPS Client UI, and click on Help, Troubleshooting.  Enable the Show product in Add/Remove Program list option.  Before uninstalling, you will need to disable the Host IPS module to disable the self-protection signatures.  If you don't the uninstall will fail.

Instead of using the Add/Remove Programs, you can use the command line uninstall, which you can get from HKLM\Software\McAfee\HIP\UninstallCMD, however, you still have to disable the Host IPS module first.

The KB article for manual uninstalls should only be used if the "automated" uninstalls fail.
