This is a pretty generic question I am hoping someone can help shed some light on. Are the hot-fixes suppose to install in order or does it not matter ? See below
My ePO had HIPS 8P2 and a couple HF in it. Today I loaded Hips 8P4 - the repost and the patch 4 into the ePO along with 4 hot fixes.
Here are the hotfixes I loaded into the ePO in EVAL branch and updated an agent policy to check the EVAL branch for hotfixes and patches
HIPS_8_P4_HostIPS_Client800_Hotfix927324 - .2933
HIPS_8_P4_HostIPS_Client800_Hotfix913276 - .2970
HIPS_8_P4_HostIPS_Client800_Hotfix923579 - .2964
So I assumed the hot-fixes would all install in order. During testing out of the Evaluation branch assigned to a couple systems. When I forced the client task (run task now) to tell the agent to check for new patches and hotfixes. I was watching which HF came down after HIPS update to P4 .2919. It doesn't seem like they install in order of release.
Here is the order they installed in
917046 - .2935
927324 - .2933
913276 - .2970
923579 - .2964
I was just curious if this is normal and if it doesn't really matter what order they install long as they all install ??
1. For HIPS 8.0 Patch 4, it is recommended to use the rollup hotfixes, instead of the original hotfixes you posted. For these two hotfixes, this specific order is required.
2. Usually hotfixes do not have a specific install order. When it is required, the documentation should state specifics, such as:
Looking at the list of hotfixes on this page below. How would I know that 981275 and 952227 are roll up hot fixes ? I can only use what is provided to me and the one's I posted are the only one's I have to use so far.
Even if I had the 2 that you mentioned, how do I have the ePO install them in the correct order ? Will the ePO do it on its own. I just have a client task that has all the systems check in once a day at night and repeats for 3 hours with a 15 minute break and it will check for patches and service packs. This way if there are many hotfixes I am checking in, the task will check many more times in that 3 hours and try to install them
Even if I had the 2 that you mentioned, how do I have the ePO install them in the correct order ?
For these hotfixes, it doesn't matter how you check them into ePO. Hotfix 981275 will only install if HIPS 8.0 Patch 4 (build 220.127.116.1119) is running; Hotfix 952227 will only install if HIPS 8.0 Patch 4 HF981275 (build 18.104.22.16882) is running.
If you tried to install HF952227 only on a HIPS 8 P4 system, it will fail repeatedly because the system is not running the minimum version.
See KB76593 (Section: Recommended Repository Check-in Procedure) for additional details in defining a deployment order, if necessary/desired.
