HIPS 8.8 upgrade - Disabling IPS

A question. I try to upgarde HIPS 8.8 from P2 to P4. The upgade fails while IPS protection is enabled.

Is there a way to avoid IPS disabling during the upgrade  by disabling  just a specific IPS signature? All access protection signatures are disabled.

1. There is no "HIPS 8.8". Are you talking about HIPS 8.0, or VSE 8.8?

2. Are you applying the patch manually, or via ePO client task?

Oops. Sorry for confusion. HIPS 8. Via ePO client update task.

Are there any events from the system, or error messages stating the upgrade failed?

Re: HIPS 8.8 upgrade - Disabling IPS

I've been having the same issue in my environment--- affecting over 800+ machines.  The issue doesn't affect all of my devices-- it seems to be specific to one of our computer images.  I've been disabling IPS, then run Update Now on a bunch of computers, wait for patch to install, then re-enable IPS.  It's been a pain in the butt & puts the environment at risk, but I've been too busy to put in a ticket with McAfee.  If you put a ticket in, please come back and post the resolution

I would suggest using the ClientControl tool to disable HIPS if you're trying to upgrade/patch/uninstall HIPS outside of ePO.
