We don't like to put the latest version of software out right away. Got in to bind about 2 or 3 years ago with an Agent update that stop communicating with epo. So, I let the new version changes set for a few weeks before updating.

Problem solved thank you

Hi @lwells

To understand why it's failing, we would need to look at the logs on the endpoint. If you would like help looking into these I suggest running an MER on the client machine and submitting these results to Technical Support via a Service Request.

What you can do to find the reason for the installation failure is:

Open the installation log location (typically C:\Windows\Temp\McAfeeLogs or %temp%\McAfeeLogs) and sort files by date and time > you'll want to look at the first installation-log present for this module.

Open the Adaptive Threat Prevention installation log and scroll to bottom, you will see the installation failure code i.e. “return code: 1603” (all MSI installation error codes are listed here, https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa372835(v=vs.85).aspx)

If you do see 1603, then scroll back up to the top of the log file and search for “value 3” (the word value may be different pending on log language). The first entry you find shows you point of failure.
e.:
!> Error - SysCore install failed: 255
<= leave custom action Install_SysCore()
CustomAction Install_SysCore returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Fin de la acción 12:28:11: InstallExecute. Return value 3.
MSI (s) (98:70) [12:28:11:908]: Note: 1: 2265 2: 3: -2147287035 >> with these entries “Error - SysCore install failed: 255” and “-2147287035” you can search on the agent portal for errors

It may also point you to look at another log file, in which case you can go to the mentioned log file and search for "error" or "fail". Again you can then search for these in agent portal.

We also have a KB which might help you: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB87589

Feel free to share a further extract from the log files!

Hi @lwells,

Can you please give us more information regarding this installation failure? Please follow @chealey reply below for a logical workflow of investigation to find out the issue cause and possibly a solution to the installation issue.

Alternatively, You can always open a Service Request with us and we can assist you via  remote session as well.

Also, I am curious to know why you would like to deploy ATP 10.6 version with ENS 10.7?

Can you also help us with more information like whether this is a stand-alone installation? or deployed via ePO? Depending on the answer to this query, we can guide you to the right location to obtain the logs files we need.

If you prefer logging a support case with us then you can login to the below link for the same:

I sincerely hope this helps!

Hi @lwells

Please do be advised though that you need to run the same version of ATP as you have ENS installed. Running separate versions can have very serious functional impact.
