<mcshield.exe> consumed high CPU during scanning

Jump to solution

Hi,

During scanning, noticed that the <mcshield.exe> consumed 100% CPU and it crashed the server after sometimes. Below the Mcafee details:

McAfee Agent version: 5.6.3.157
System core version: 18.12.0.162
Management type: McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator

Threat prevention version: 10.6.1.1208

McAfee DLP Endpoint version: 11.3.0.172

McAfee Endpoint security version: 10.6

Please advise if there are any patches/fixes to this issue. If yes, please provide the download link. Else, please suggest what can be done on the configuration/system to reduce the high CPU utilization during scanning. The server OS is Windows 2012 R2. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Dannyyeo ,

Thank you for your post. McAfee Scanner service may use High CPU during scan.

There are few tips to tune the performance during On-Demand Scan. Please refer to the link below.

Hi Pravas,

The system is configured scheduled scanning daily at 12am. This is Windows Server 2012 and configured as ISCSI target used in rail transportation and cannot be shutdown. The CPU shot up to 100% and often crashed the system. Please suggest other fine tuning tips for scheduled scan. Thanks!

Danny

To make sure it is MCAFEE itself which makes it slow (Most of the cases we have not the case.....)

Check the WAN access the system has.

a) Build one with FULL WAN (Internet) access

b) Build one with LOCKDOWN to WAN as you have it maybe now (Proxy etc.)

c) Temporary OPEN WAN FULL and check the CPU% etc.

Check Certificate Revocation access (WAN all URL) from Code signing and that he can reach all MCAFEE FQDN and IP-Ranges.
