can you scan a single file on a usb drive using scan for threats

Jump to solution

I can scan a single file on the hard drive but when I try to scan a single file on a USB it scans the entire USB drive.  Is this by design?

Thank you for your clarification Ken, This seems to be one of the known issues and also which was addressed in ENS 10.7.0 July 2020 Update.

ENSW-97929 - Fixes an issue where, in presence of an Eicar, right-click scan on a file causes all
files on a USB to get scanned even when not selected explicitly

https://docs.mcafee.com/bundle/endpoint-security-v10-7-x-july-2020-update-release-notes/resource/pro...

Could you please let me know the ENS version in question here to validate the same and maybe upgrade to ENS 10.7 July release or any later version and check if we still have this issue?

Hello Ken,

Ideally, when a single is subjected to scan, we should be seeing that specific file to be scanned. Could you please help me understand when you say scanning a single file, I assume it is a right-click scan if I am not wrong?

Also with the scan results what do we see with the files scanned, maybe if you could help us with a screenshot of the result

Yes you are correct RT Click on a file and select scan for threats.

A file on a file.  The 2 attached files are from a usb drive and the c:  both the same file.

Is there a setting that can be changed to allow single file scan on USB like that of the hard drive?
