VSE8.8 P4 to ENS migration

Hi Heroes,

My customer has some old PCs installed 8.8 Patch 4(8.8.0.1247) and 8.7i, also has an old ePO running 5.3.1.

We are estimating and testing on how to migrate them to ENS 10.7 and ePO 5.10.

Currently we will not use the ENS Migration Assistant Extension, as we dont need to migrate VSE policies, we will just deploy ENS 10.7 to automatically uninstall VSE and finish the migration.

I'm testing in my lab and seems ENS successfully uninstalled VSE 8.8P4 but failed to install itself, I checked the logs the reason is VSCore installation failed.

I dont want to dig into why ENS failing to install, but I wish to know does it have any known issues to migrate from some old VSE versions like P4 or 8.7i to ENS? and what's the best practice? is it recommended to uninstall them first? thanks!!!

Re: VSE8.8 P4 to ENS migration

Hello gl1221

Thanks for posting your query in regards to migration from VSE to ENS.

ENS 10.7.0 uses the latest Syscore which is 20.3.0.137 that is latest

VSE patch 4 uses quite older one that may not upgrade.

Since ENS install checks for the existing VSE using process called MVuninstall.exe in the installer, it is obvious VSE is uninstalled.

The remnants of the older VSCORE or SYSCORE may cause installation failure of ENS 10.7 as Patch 4 Syscore may not be up-gradable.

So it is better if you can run removal tool (McAfee Product Removal Tool or EPR tool) that removes the older syscore versions so the newer install goes without issue.

You can run the EPR tool either standalone or from the ePO and uninstall VSE and install ENS.

Kindly let us know if this answer your query.
