Use Endpoint Security Threat Prevention to delete files by extension

I'd like to use Endpoint Security Threat Prevention to delete files having a particular extension, say .XYZ. It appears I can't use wildcards in the Potentially Unwanted Program Detections name field as I tried to put *.XYZ there but it does not accept it. I also looked at using Access Protection rules but there doesn't appear to be a way to delete files, only block or report on activity. Is there a way to use Endpoint Security Threat Prevention to delete all files having an extension of .XYZ that it comes across?

Re: Use Endpoint Security Threat Prevention to delete files by extension

Hi @ctscalbers,

Thank you for your post, I am afraid deletion is not possible using ENS on basis of extension.

Was my reply helpful?

Re: Use Endpoint Security Threat Prevention to delete files by extension

Hello,

You can create an Expert rule:

https://www.mcafee.com/blogs/other-blogs/mcafee-labs/using-expert-rules-in-ens-10-5-3-to-prevent-mal...

https://github.com/mcafee/ExpertRules

https://kc.mcafee.com/resources/sites/MCAFEE/content/live/PRODUCT_DOCUMENTATION/27000/PD27574/en_US/...

The setup of such rules can be tricky but allows very interesting possibilities.

Professional Service can assist with details setups since these rules and testing are not part of technical support. The guides above should explain the basics. All you need is time for testing.

Regards,

Stefan
