In this case i would recommend you to use "limit maximum CPU usage " setting under the same performance section.
By default this option will be grayed-out. you need to enable 'scan anytime' option for the "limit maximum CPU usage" option to be used.
Once you enable "limit maximum CPU usage", you can type in the amount of CPU (between 25%-99%) that you would want McAfee ODS scan to consume when scanning files.
