Two questions.

1.  I'm trying to confirm if interactive PowerShell (ISE running non-saved script code and pasting full script code into the PowerShell command line/non-ISE) can be monitored and/or blocked with ENS 10.7?

2.  Is there an updated version of the paper:

  • PowerShell>  Reducing the Attack Surface
  • October 2017
    Version 1.0
    Jason Brown

If there is, please provide the download link.  I cannot tell if there is a new version.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Re: Powershell

Hi @mlajoie ,

Thank you for your post.

1) I looked into the default Expert rules but couldn't find anything specific to Powershell ISE. You may test by creating a rule. Please refer to the guide below on expert rules.

2) Sorry we do not have an updated version. Please refer the following KB's as well.

(i) Countermeasures for entry vector threats

(ii) Best practices for tuning and using Endpoint Security to prevent and respond to threat incidents

Re: Powershell

AMSI should cover ISE, so the contents are monitored with signatures and ML, as long as this is enabled. I can't think of any way to decipher a saved script file vs a pasted script, but, you are much more at risk of malware loading the .Net libraries needed for PowerShell, than a risk from ISE, in my opinion.
