Old dat files are not deleted automatically on McAfee 10.5.5 ENS

Jump to solution

We are using McAfee_Endpoint_Security_10.5.5.5136.1_standalone_client on our systems. The problem is that on few of our systems old dat files are not deleted automatically and being accumulated for no apparent reason, increasing the disk space on servers.

The location is "C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\Engine\content\avengine\med" and we are not able to clean the path even with admin rights as the files are still being used by Mcafee in the background.

We tried to follow the steps mentioned on https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB73363 but our systems don't have the Purgeolddefinitions.exe utility.

Kindly advice on how to delete those files automatically.

Thanks

Hi @Former Member ,

Thank you for posting on the Community. We apologize for being late in answering you.

Under normal circumstances, three generations of files should be retained.
You can probably delete the old files in safe mode. If you really need an action urgently, this is one of the effective measures.
However, the recommendation is to uninstall ENS once, manually delete the files and then install the new version of ENS. (ENS10.6.1 latest version or ENS10.7.0 latest version.)
If the problem reoccurs, best suggestion to come to mind is engage with McAfee Support to check this by McAfee engineering.

Best regards,
