New McAfee Endpoint Removal Tool - ePO Deployment

Jump to solution

Hello, I've recently downloaded the new McAfee Endpoint Removal Tool and packaged it with EEDK for use in ePO. This removal tool is a little different than passed removal tools (aka McAfee Ripper) in that the switches are slightly different. When I try to create a client task in ePO utilizing the package I built with EEDK, I get an exit code, "-1 Failure" when I push the client task to a system. I'm wondering if I've packaged the tool incorrectly in EEDK or if my command line switches are incorrect (e.g. "--accetpeula --VSE", to remove VSE) inside the client task. Has anyone seen this? What am I missing?

EDIT: Adding screen shot of client task in hopes that it will help understand what I've got configured. Maybe the task needs to be changed.Remove_VSE.png

The ePO Deployment task looks fine; verify if your EEDK package is setup correctly.

Here is an example of my EEDK package for the EPR tool (it doesn't have to be this exact configuration, but it should call the McAfeeEndpointProductRemoval_2.0.0.70.exe executable directly without any parameters; the command line arguments are put in the ePO Deployment task as you configured).

I haven't seen that exact thing, but this new version of the Tool doesn't work for us because we use McAfee File and Removable Media Protection in our stack. In order to use the new Removal Tool, it requires FRP to be uninstalled before it can be ran. For us this basically makes the new Tool useless because we have FRP on 30k systems... 😞

Just FYI, the McAfee EPR 2.2.0.22 version (released Aug 7th 2018) comes with an ePO deployable package, so the EEDK tool is no longer necessary.

That is great to hear about the ePO deployable package. Any word on if it will ever be easier to download for admins? I understand for security purposes it's locked down but When I have an issue and it takes 3 days for a tech to reply with a download link, that is unacceptable to us and not fair to our users and we catch a ton of flack if the removal tool expires and we have to wait and someone is without their computer because McAfee isn't working and causing problems.

Eventually when everything is working properly we will be able to put it back on the support portal. Where all you will have to do is download from the portal. but currently there is a small delay as you may be on a release with an issue and we are still waiting for the fix. This tool is brand new and still under construction as you have experienced many issues. My point is that its probably not availalble the day of your ticket is probably because we dont have the newer version yet. Currently the tool is internal until we work out the bugs.

I have tested - McAfee EPR 2.2.0.22 version.

Checked in package into ePO withou EEDK.

Tried to remove ENS 10.5 and DLP 11, works fine.

Where did you get it to test?  Support Portal or did you have to put a ticket in?  Or are you a McAfee employee and tested with the internal copy?

Thanks.

I am not a McAfee epmloyee but looks like I am alpha/beta tester for them... found a lot of bugs and done a lot of tests and receive nothing from them :))

If you need a removal tool, open case for Mcafee with removal tool request.
