Thank you for your post! McShield is the Scanner Service. Reasons for it to stop or malfunction could be many, one of which could also be incorrect installation. Typically, these issues would require investigation from tech Support via a Service Request. However, we can have a discussion on this here as well.
I would like to gather some details before we get into the issue:
How many machines are impacted?
What version of ENS is installed? Can you confirm you are using the latest in place?
Can you please share the output of the command: mmsinfo.exe -enum
This is run using command prompt from the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\
When did this issue start happening? Has it always been this way since installation or did it come up after some specific changes?
If Self protection On by policy for impacted machine(s) ?
