Manual Offline DAT Update for Standalone ENS 10.6

Jump to solution

HI folks I am hoping somebody can clear this up for me. I have a tiny number of Windows 10 end stations, which due to their sensitive nature, never get connected to the internet. I have installed standalone 10.6 ENS, Threat Prevention only.

In the good old days of VSE8.8 I would regularly go online via an unconnected system, download the dat.zip file, and then do an airgap transfer and run through the good old manual process of stopping the McAfee services, overwriting the three old DAT files with the three new ones and then restarting the McAfee services. Eeezy Peezy!

With this new fangled ENS I dont have a clue what to do or even what files I need to download. I suspect that I need to set up the Update to point at a local folder and then place the latest 'DAT' files (or whatever they are called) in there. Then press the update button.

Can anybody please confirm that this is the case and if so where do I get hold of the daily update of the equivalent of the old DAT files that I need to download and place in that repository? Remember I cannot connect these systems to the internet and they are standalone, no EPO.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Graham

The reason you cannot locate any information on performing this, is because it doesn't exist publicly, at least not yet.  I, too, recall the good ol days of performing manual DAT corrections, for when a customer possibly had a corrupt DAT package that was preventing new updates from occurring...not too difficult, right?

Unfortunately, with ENS, and the new V3 AMCore DAT's, the same steps and procedures no longer apply.  If it might help for now, instead of performing all of these manual steps, we could reduce it considerably by using the daily DAT executable (link below).  This is a full update package, but it can achieve what is intended, in that it can update systems which do not reach out directly to the web.

This is the security updates page.  It might prompt you to select agree/disagree when accessing.  Look for the V3_<dat number>dat.exe package.  This is a portable exe package that will perform a full DAT update, and the package is uploaded daily with the new DAT (usually around noon central time).
