Endpoint Security Deployment Task FAILED

Hello Community, I have a question about the EPS Product. I have the following errors which are constantly repeated.

Did anyone got a solution for this?

La tâche Endpoint Security Deployment Task (Default) à exécuter immédiatement a échoué.
Détails : Product "ENDP_GS_1060" installation failed, reason "Point Product Custom Error".

Hi @BKS_Nesrine 

Thank you for your post. Kindly please let us know more details regarding this issue. Is this is a "Run client Task now" action that you have performed? Can you try scheduling the deployment task just to be sure?

What version of agent is present on the endpoint and What version of Endpoint Security you are trying to deploy?

May I also know the Operating System version?

Since this deployment is happening form ePO, May I also know if you find any installation logs at "C:\Windows\Temp\McAfeeLogs" folder?

Hi @BKS_Nesrine 

I would usually start off by looking for McAfee_Endpoint_BootStrapper_xxxxx.log and McAfee_Common_Install_xxxxx.log under "C:\Windows\Temp\mcafeelogs".

Please upload the logs if it does not contain any sensitive information. I will be very glad to have a look into the logs for you.

Yes i did the action "Run client Task now"
The version of McAfee Agent : 5.6.2
The version of ENS ; 10.6.1
The Operating System : Windows server 2016
For the McAfeelogs I did not find a folder

Thank you for your kind response. Looks like the deployment was never attempted at all if the folder is not present.

How many endpoints are affected?

If there are many, Can you pick any one machine and check if running the installation locally helps? You can download the stand-alone installer from https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-in/downloads/my-products.html using your Grant#.

You can also help us with the logs you would find under "C:\ProgramData\McAfee\Agent\logs" and I shall look into this immediately and check for error.

Hi BKS_Nesrine,

Have you tried deploying ENS via "Client task product deployment". Because "Run now task" uses over data channel which is suggested/recommended way to deploy product. Select the Target Machine from system tree-->actions-->Agents-->edit task one a single system-->New client task assignment-->McAFee agent-->product deployment-->select the task if you have already created nor create a new one and select "run immediately" under schedule type. Once done, send a Wakeup call with force complete task and policy update.

You can check McScript_deploy_log under <programdata>/McAfee/Agent/log

Fore the moment, two endpoint are affected, but the others ones the task is executed succefully ;

Thank you for your kind response. As requested, Can you please help me with the log files you find at "C:\ProgramData\McAfee\Agent\logs" ?

Also, Can you try deploying Endpoint Security as @LKS has suggested? His steps are given here for quick reference:

Also, How about running an installation locally?

Hi @BKS_Nesrine 

Looks like the older version of product, possibly Virus Scan Enterprise or HIPS is present on the machine. They may not have been removed properly.

If we have a specific log file for VSCORE uninstall, we may find the root cause. Otherwise, you can create a support request with us where we can try to look into the logs for you and perform the uninstallation.

Please let me know if you can see any other log files apart from this.

Hi @BKS_Nesrine

Firstly, Kudos to you for keeping us posted. As mentioned earlier, it is still showing Point product error. Hence, We need to identify installation from the point product perspective. Kindly please collect the log files you have in "C:\windows\temp\McAfeeLogs" and please zip them and send it to us here.

If you are not comfortable in sharing the entire logs folder, please create a service Request with us so that we can investigate the same for you.

*Note: Please ensure sensitive information like IP addresses are removed or replaced form the logs you send to this forum

Hi @BKS_Nesrine,

Also as suggested already and as seen from the screenshot, we need to ensure removal of Virus Scan Enterprise and HIPS is done successfully on this machine so that you can successfully install ENS.

ENS can automatically uninstall legacy products, however we recommend you to confirm that the uninstallation of these products are successful.

Also please ensure a reboot is done before you install Endpoint Security again. All these information can be identified form the various log files present in "C:\Windows\Temp\McAfeeLogs\".

I am no HIPS expert, however the above KBA seems very relevant in disabling HIPS to uninstall the client. I sincerely hope this helps.

Also, Kindly please find the attached PDF that talks about Self protection on HIPS. It details how this can be disabled locally. Kindly please let me know if this is not helpful as I can consult with my resources and see if there is any other way to get this accomplished.

If there are many, Can you pick any one machine and check if running the installation locally helps? You can download the stand-alone installer from https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-in/downloads/my-products.html using your Grant#.

You can also help us with the logs you would find under "C:\ProgramData\McAfee\Agent\logs" and I shall look into this immediately and check for error.

Thank you for your kind response. As requested, Can you please help me with the log files you find at "C:\ProgramData\McAfee\Agent\logs" ?

Also, Can you try deploying Endpoint Security as @LKS has suggested? His steps are given here for quick reference:

"Select the Target Machine from system tree-->actions-->Agents-->edit task one a single system-->New client task assignment-->McAFee agent-->product deployment-->select the task if you have already created nor create a new one and select "run immediately" under schedule type. Once done, send a Wakeup call with force complete task and policy update."

Also, How about running an installation locally?

Kindly please keep us posted about your findings.

Hi @BKS_Nesrine 

Thank you for your kind response and also for uploading the log excerpt. If I am not wrong, The machine was already running an older version of endpoint Security, possible Virus Scan Enterprise Patch 4 since we are detecting VSCore component present with version: 15.1.0.543.11.

I am sure there must be logs present in the endpoint apart form just the bootstrapper that might help us find the cause to this issue.

Can you archive the logs files and send it to me for reviewing?
