ENS Web Control 10.7 behavior change?

Hello,

Are you aware if there was undocumented behavior change in Web Control introduced in version 10.7?

The attached warning started appearing when we download resources from internal web site which is whitelisted. We had it whitelisted for a while and was working fine with 10.6.1, however on all devices upgraded to 10.7 the warning appears. We still have systems on 10.6.1 and on these devices you can download files from the site without any warnings as expected.

Is there a way to disable this prompt for whitelisted sites, or in general?

Thank you in advance!

Re: ENS Web Control 10.7 behavior change?

Hi @Ufoto ,

Thank you for writing in here.

Could you please share us the screenshot of the policy's setting below,

  1. Select Menu  Policy  Policy Catalog, then select Endpoint Security Web Control from the Product list.
  2. From the Category list, select Options.
  3. Click the name of the policy which is assigned to this machine where you are seeing this warning message.
  4. Take a screenshot of the Action Enforcement section and share it with us.
  5. Verify if the machine with ENS 10.6 is also having the same policy applied.

Thank you.

Yes, all systems share the same policy. I just attached a screenshot.

Re: ENS Web Control 10.7 behavior change?

Hi @Ufoto,

Thank you for your post. So the message you are seeing is based on  "Rating Action". The policy ruling this would be: Endpoint Security Web Control : Policy Category > Enforcement Messaging.

However, I strongly suspect that the policies are not getting applied properly, thereby your exclusions are not taking effect since this message comes up . Please check and re apply the Allow list policy again to ensure the policy works fine. If you are still facing the issue, please create a new test policy with the same site placed under "allow" list in Block and Allow List Policy and please apply this new policy to the machine and please confirm if  the issue still happens.

If yes, then Please check if your extensions are updated and please log a support ticket with us for investigation if  the issue still remains unresolved!

I sincerely hope this helps you diagnose the issue.

Re: ENS Web Control 10.7 behavior change?

Please check https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB92211. Kindly revert ENS Web Control "Content Actions" policy for Unrated sites to "Allow" instead of "Warn".

Re: ENS Web Control 10.7 behavior change?

@mmuthuga Yes, we are aware of this article, however this is not really a solution as this will change the behavior for all Unrated sites. That's exactly why I raised this topic, as this was not an issue with any 10.6.x version. It is observed only on systems with ENS 10.7.
