Unable to remove McAfee agent & ENS on Windows storage server 2012 r2

Hi,

I am running Endpoint Product Removal Tool 20.4.0.33 (latest). I am running Windows storage server 2012 r2 Version 6.3 (Build 9600). After I open the EPR tool, select McAFee agent (5.6.1) and ENS (10.6.1), remove them and perform a reboot, after the reboot it shows a command prompt screen showing McAfee products cannot be removed because access denied. PFB snap.

Again when I run EPR, I see both agent and ENS are getting detected but none of them show inside appwiz.cpl. When I checked the registry both ENS and agent entries are there.

I went within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Wow6432Node/NetworkAssociates/ePolicy Orchestrator/Application Plugins and tried manually deleting each key but that also failed showing access denied.

Followed https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB58231 as well, but that didn't help. Can you please let me know how to remove ENS and agent. I have rebooted my server multiple times but nothing has helped.

Is EPR tool not compatible with my server OS? if not then how to remove manually? Please suggest

Re: Unable to remove McAfee agent & ENS on Windows storage server 2012 r2

Hello @Abhishek_Roy,

You can install Service pack 1 on server 2008 R2 first.

(This link might show you issue related to different issue but service pack will help as per my knowledge - https://rspydir.wordpress.com/2017/05/24/solved-unable-to-load-process-monitor-device-driver/)

- Reboot system and then try to run Endpoint Removal tool.

We need to make sure that we run the EPR tool with Admin rights and reboot is a mandate step.
Ensure files in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore" are removed

Ensure this reg key is removed: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\mfemms

Ensure this reg key is removed: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\mfevtp

If you still can't run EPR tool, try to remove McAfee manually and reboot system.

Please let me know if that helps.
Kudos! if you like the solution.
