Error Code: 1

Jump to solution

We are getting "error code: 1" in EPR.log file when runnig removal tool in our in place upgrade. The agent is still removed, but the expected output is a success code of "0". We are testing the newest version of the removal tool (v.20.4.0.33). Any context to this error would be appreciated.

Thank you for the clarification.

This error is typically seen when the --noreboot switch is used

In the old version of the EPR tool, when the tool exited 0, this did not indicate that the products were removed successfully, only that the EPR tool had finished attempting to remove the products. To verify if the removal was successful, you would have to check the machine to verify if everything was removed. We wanted to minimize having to do these checks, so we introduced the new exit code, 1. In the new version, exit code 0 indicates that all the instructions for removing the products ran correctly, so the products were successfully removed. Exit code 1 indicates that not all the instructions ran correctly. However, this does not mean the products were not removed, only that a McAfee file/folder/service etc. may not have been fully deleted. In most cases, this will not cause any issue installing/reinstalling McAfee products.

Hope this helps!

Hi @mkmecz ,

I believe you deployed and ran the EPR from EPO. Could you please confirm if --noreboot command was used?

We did not run the EPR from the ePO, it was downloaded exe from the McAfee site. The following switches were enabled “--accepteula --noreboot –ALL”
