Endpoint Removal Tool ePO client task runs but doesn't doesn't execute the ERT

Jump to solution

I'm trying to deploy the Endpoint Removal Tool using a client task in ePO 5.10. I downloaded the newest version of the Endpoint Removal Tool from McAfee's site and checked the .zip file into the repository on our 5.10 ePO server. I created a deployment task in ePO and have tried multiple combinations of the required switches (--accepteula --ENS --noreboot) in the deployment task.  I assign the task to a server (Windows 2012R2) and I can see the task try to run on the server in the Agent Monitor window but it immediately finishes and says it was successful. It never actually runs and no logs are created. I've tried this on several different servers with the same result.

If I copy the Endpoint Removal Tool executable file over to a server and run it manually it works fine and removes the installed McAfee products.

I opened a ticket with McAfee support but the person I worked with was also stumped.

Wondering if anybody has run into this problem or has any suggestions?

The issue turned out to be with the older version of the McAfee Agent we were trying to remove. It looks like older Agents have some bugs that cause issues with running scheduled tasks from the ePO server. After I installed the latest version of the McAfee Agent on one of the systems having the issue, the client task from the ePO server to run the Endpoint Removal Tool worked fine. Not very helpful considering the only way to get the removal tool to work is to install a newer version of the Agent but at least we know what was wrong.

Hi @jeffwol1 ,

The command line looks right, please make sure there are no spaces before or after the command.

You should have a log under C:\Windows\Temp\McAfeeLogs\EPR.log that can provide more information.

Thanks
