Impact of moving encrypted drive to another laptop?

Jump to solution

Hi - We are deploying encryption EEPC 6.2 and DLP endpoint 9.2, while at the same time are upgrading computers to a new standard Windows 7 image.  As part of our process we are considering imaging / encrypting drives in one laptop then moving the drive to the end users laptop.  I would like to understand what issues this might cause with the computer communicating with ePO?  Does this create multiple MAC addresses in ePO and will this cause problems?  IS there a best practice for doing this to avoid communications issues with ePO?  Any insight is appreciated.  Swapping drives would speed up our process and minimize users downtime but I don't want to take this approach there are risks.

You have to take into account the following things:

- EEPC machine key reuse; if you enable this, the server identifies the machine based on hardware

- McAfee Agent GUID. This is the unique identifier that's used to track machines after they 1st sync to epo. If any hardware/os detail changes, they will be automatically updated.

What's the deployment process? You want to include the mcafee agent in the image? If so, you'll have to there the GUID from the regisitry editor.

This is helpful. Thanks. We will look at our process and assure we have EEPC set correclty.  We are not including the mcafee agent in the image. It is installed post image.
