ePolicy Orchestrator version 5.3.1 and Drive Encryption Agent 188.8.131.527 Dell E7240
If anyone can provide any guidance other than reimaging, that would be fantastic. Tried contacting Dell. Found bios was on A07 and updated to A18 but still no luck. Any other suggestions?
Was the system working previously or is this a fresh install of MDE? If it was previously working, follow the guidance in KB71868 to Emergency Boot the system.
OK, that did allow me to get to the desktop. The question at this point is will it give me the same error upon reboot or is this indicative of an impending corrupt encryption installation?
Yes, it was working completely fine. Unsure of what could have caused this to happen all of a sudden. Have yet to speak to him to see if he was able to boot up today without issue.
There is really no way to tell exactly what or why this happened. Likely this system is booting using Legacy BIOS. As such, because of limitations to the BIOS standard which was developed in the 1970's, the file system for Preboot is only protected by marking it as a .sys file and susceptible corruption of the Preboot File System. This is why 3rd party defrag tools can cause corruption as outlined in KB73032.
This limitation of the BIOS standard was addressed with creation of the UEFI standard which changes the method for loading of preboot environments and allows for protection of the preboot file system.
