EERM Initialization Failed!

Hi All,

I've just setup EEFFv4 on our ePO4.5 server (latest patch version) and am having some difficulty encrypting USB devices.

I first tried with a 128MB USB flashdrive.  Gave it a Volume Label, ePO policy dictates the entire device is to be encrypted, gave it an authentication password and recovery password and hit Initialize but then got the message "Initialization failed!" but no further information.

I then tried with a 250GB external HDD but with the same results.

The knowledgebase and these forums don't seem to really have anything to help, that I could find anyway.

Anyone come across this issue and resolved it?

Re: EERM Initialization Failed!

Forgot to mention that I've tried formatting the devices as FAT32 and NTFS with the same results.

Re: EERM Initialization Failed!

Probably here KB72684 is your answer.

Especially question: "What is the maximum recommended device size for EERM?".

Re: EERM Initialization Failed!

Thanks SCtbe but that doesn't really apply to a 128MB memory stick.

Re: EERM Initialization Failed!

I think the problem is with your grant keys policy. If your removable media policy uses a key for recovery, then you must ensure that key is on the system at the time of device initialization. So make sure your system or your user has a grant key policy that includes the key used by the removable media policy.
