Is it possible to set up EEPC 6.2 to use Opal on a drive that supports it (in this case a HTS723232A7A365) and to dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu? Would you use the EEPC boot manager or grub2? Are there any FAQ's on how to set this up?
This is not something that has ever been tested unfortunately. The EEPC product though has a boot manager in it though - you won't be able to use GRUB as it does not support relocation, and neither does the EEPC boot loader.
You'd have to try it and see.
Not sure that I understand/appreciate the relocation issues but I was hoping that with low level encryption via OPAL in the disk HW everything running above would be transparent (and encryted).
Unfortunatley, OPAL does not really work like that - it uses separate encrypted and unencrypted ranges of the disk for different things.
You still need a boot manager though to allow you to pick which partition to boot from, and the only one which has a chance of working is the one built into EEPC.
