Is there ANYONE out there currently running Windows 7 x64, EEPC 7.0.3 or 7.1 on the Dell e7240 and/or e7440 in UEFI mode?
I currently have 5 open cases with McAfee support.....
We recently switched to Dell and are seeing the following issues.....
Issue # 1 = Shift Key.
Reported to McAfee = Thursday 01/30/2014 When typing password at PBA (Preboot Authentication Screen), asterisks would populate across the password field screen when using a USB keyboard either in the dock or connected to laptop. In other words, as soon as you pressed Shift, you would see 20-30 asterisks. You would not see this behavior when using the built in laptop keyboard.
McAfee’s Resolution #1 = McAfee advised us to upgrade from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3. That upgrade disabled the Shift key, so now there is no Shift key functionality with an external keyboard.
Issue # 2 = Black/Blank Screen.
Reported to McAfee = Friday 02/21/2014 Two techs were issued Dell 7440’s after 1 to 2 days of usage, after logging into PBA, machine boots to a black screen, windows never loads, hard drive activity light strobes. Another tech built 2 7440 laptops, both presented black screen. I had him reimage, after reimaging they presented black screen again.
McAfee’s Resolution #2 = No fix as of yet from McAfee.
Issue # 3 = Internal Initialization Error.
Reported to McAfee = Friday 02/21/2014 When user’s attempt to log into PBA, they are presented with a File Initialization Error. As a work around, you are able to perform an emergency boot using a McAfee EETech USB key. However this is only a work around, it will resolve that issue, however you can recreate the issue by attempting to log in at PBA, enter bad password, power off laptop while the warning is still present that your password is bad. Error EE0F0001 Failed to authenticate. Power on laptop, enter user name, you will see the error of "Fatal Error: [0xEE000007] Internal initialization”
McAfee’s Resolution #3 = No fix as of yet from McAfee.
Issue #4 = EPE bad xml exception error.
Reported to McAfee = Monday 02/24/2014 Have seen this on 2 to 3 machines, a tech delivered a Dell 7440 to a user he put the laptop in the dock to set up dual displays, upon powering on laptop, you see the Dell splash screen, then you see this error = 'EPE_bad_xml_exception' what(): [0xEE000005] Failed to deseralize type You are never presented with the McAfee PBA. I was able to use EETech and Emergency Boot the laptop, repaired PBA and issue did not reappear.

Issue #5 = TEST ePO 7.1 Encryption – Error EE050014 File access error.
Reported to McAfee = Tuesday 02/25/2014 McAfee asked me to build a fresh imaged machine and install 7.1 encryption. I used a 7240, deleted it from AD, SCCM, and test ePO (since it had been encrypted before twice in the test ePO). I imaged the machine, successfully encrypted it with 7.1. Issue that appears is when you enter your username at PBA, enter bad password, power off machine, power on, attempt to enter username which worked previously, you will see the error = Error EE050002 Unknown user. If you attempt to log in as another user, you will see a new error of Error EE050014 File access error.

We have exactly the same Problems here with this two Dell Laptop models and the Drive Encryption 7.1.
I think it has to do with the build in mSata drives. On both models it is an Samsung SSD PM841 mSATA.
We hardly need a fix for this as soon as possible, in our factory policy we are not allowed to give unencrypted notebooks to our employees.

To give an update, I have shipped a 7440 and 7240 to the McAfee developers in the UK.
As of today, they have had the hardware for 12 (calendar) days.
They have been able to recreate the issues we have told them about. Shift Key not working, Internal Initialization Errors, etc. etc....
Also, I have an open SR with Dell and am going to ship Dell a 7440 today, 03/19
McAfee in UK also opened a case with Dell UK and are going to attach it to my SR #
Yes, both our 7440 and 7240 are using 256 GB SSD's from Samsung (the mSATA/pcie chips)

F/W = DXT43D0Q
On a side note, we are experiencing the issues and can recreate the issues in multiple configurations:
RAID or AHCI
Legacy or UEFI
TPM activated or TPM deactivated or TPM cleared and disabled
Fast Boot minimal or Fast Boot thorough
Secure Boot Disabled
And our OS is Win7 x64 SP1 Enterprise
Update Tuesday 03/25/2014
I wanted to update on the issues we are seeing with the Dell Latitude 7240 and 7440.
McAfee has handed all their troubleshooting over to Dell who has now engaged Samsung.
We are working directly with Dell and Samsung to troubleshoot possible bad firmware.
On a side note, I am still working with McAfee on the Shift key not working as well as EETech not working on 7.0.3 when you build the machine in Legacy mode. More on that to follow.

I think we are running into the same issue. Two notebooks stopped working on Friday and today.
Dell Latitude E7440 with an MSATA Samsung PM841
Dell Latitude E6420 with an Samsung 840 Pro inserted last week as an upgrade with a reinstallation of the system.
The error message on both systems is „Fatal Error: 0xEE0D0001 Failed to read registry file“
Standalone recovery media does not find any hard drive.
Did you receive any news from McAfee, Dell or Samsung?

This thread caught my attention because the environment that I provide support for has the same hardware selections, Dell E7440's and Samsung PM841 SSDs. I'm currently building a new ePO instance running 5.3.1 with Drive Encryption 7.1.3 (Patch 3). Per McAfee these are the latest releases for their specific products. For those users affected by the erractic behavior, are you running Drive Encryption 7.1.3?
I have these issues (Fatal Error: 0xEE0D0001 Failed to read registry file) in those Dell's models with Samsung diks (Samsung SSD PM841).
It works after upgrade Samsung firmware , with DE 7.1.0 and 7.1.3.
