one of our employees would like to install LANcrypt, a tool one of our clients uses for encrypting files and folders. Can this be used on an McAfee Endpoint encrypted machine without problems?
I know that the use of tools like TrueCrypt is not recommended, but I'm not sure if the additional encyption of single files and folders WITHOUT whole drive encryption is possible, though.
Please excuse my bad English, as it is not my native language.
Thank you very much for your support,
greetings from Germany!
Please allow me following question, though I fully understand, if this is nothing you can or want to answer: Does McAfee advise against the use of any other encryption solution on an EE encrypted machine, or specifically against those for whole drive encryption? My understanding is, that as long as a second encryption tool doesen't touch the bootloader, everything should be fine. In fact, I used Truecrypt containers on my EE encrypted notebook without provoking any problems. (Maybe I was lucky?)
I hope this question isn't annoying. I'm really trying to find a solution for our employees request and would like to make it work for him.
If you advise against any other encryption tool on top of an already EE-encrypted drive, that's fine. I just don't want to deny his request without asking you as a specialist.
Thank you for your time!
I don't have an answer for you - We don't test our software alongside any other competitors software, so I simply don't know what will happen. Other drive encryption software is guarenteed to fail badly. File encryption software? As you say, it should work perfectly. EFS for example works fine on top of MDE/EEPC etc.
You may be the first to ever try this, or, it may be a case that lots of people do it and since there's no issue, no one ever reported it.
My experience would lead me to believe it should work, but as I say, I've never tried and and don't know anyone else who has.
Perfect, thank you so much for your opinion on this matter!
I guess I'll give it a try (backing up any personal data before!) and who knows: Maybe I'll be the first to share my experience with it!
Have a great weekend,
