User Directory and Disk Encryption...

I have a laptop which I'd like to encrypt using ePO and DE, but this laptop isn't going to be used with a domain account, just a local account.  I've created a user in the User Directory in ePO, and assigned that user to the laptop's Encryption Users, but the laptop still won't encrypt.  DE keeps saying policy enforcement failed.  WHat else do I need to do to get this working?

Re: User Directory and Disk Encryption...

Hi mraybone,

I had a chat with the Drive encryption team about this matter for you! 😉

They ask that you give them a call and have MER data (MFEEPE.log) from that client ready so they can review and guide you through the steps to do this!

Re: User Directory and Disk Encryption...

MDE has these mandatory prerequisites:

1. Compatible hardware and McAfee software versions -

3. Assigned user - manually(AD), ALDU or User Directory

3. Have an encryption activation policy applied

4. Deploy encryption software - first MDE Agent and afterwards MDE Software(it requires mandatory reboot so that order needs to be followed)

Most common reason for activation failures are incompatible software like BitLocker or failed health checks in case you use DEGO. Please open MfeEpe.log file in "C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Encryption Agent\" and search for errors.

Share with us your findings and we can assist further.

Re: User Directory and Disk Encryption...

Thanks all for your replies and sorry for the delayed reaction.  I actually found a working solution...

I added a domain account to the laptop as an administrator so that DE activated and encrypted successfully.  Then I was able to log in via the pre-boot login screen using the local administrator account I had created on the laptop, and had added as an encryption user from the User Directory in ePO.  Both accounts share the same username.
