Drive Encryption 7.3.1 Data Recovery Via new boot method

Jump to solution

Hey Guys,

We just started testing McAfee drive encryption 7.3.1. and noticed this version has a boot recovery partition. We have successfully booted into this and passed the recovery challenge code but we are a bit stumped on how you could do data recovery. In the past versions, we have had the pleasure of using the EZPE tools provided by Jay and would unlock the drive and use the cmd line or file explorer tools to copy data off the drive. Not sure how to even access the cmd in using this new boot method, and is it possible to customize this boot wim?

The recovery tool option that is included here is essentially the equivalent of the standalone DETech tool.  It does not include any Windows components like a Windows PE environment would.  Of course, if the need arises, a WinPE environment with 7.3.x DETech components can still be used on external boot media but alteration of the built in recovery option is not supported.

I tested the DETECH recovery option with v7.3. Use the Emergency boot or Remove EE options. Then recover data. Hope this helps!
