My work laptop has decided to stop booting Windows 7 normally. Instead it goes in to System Recovery options but it won't repair itself and there's no previous recovery points to revert to.
It has McAfee Drive Encryption and I know the username/password but it just always boots into System Recovery. I tried booting win10 from a usb stick but that doesn't show the McAfee encryption login and so I can't view my encrypted drive.
Trying to get into safe mode with F8 isn't working and I've tried lots!
My IT Support department say I need to re-image the machine and I'll lose all my documents. I really don't want to lose my documents and suspect they're just being lazy/efficient.
Is there anyway I can either recover Windows or recover my documents before they wipe it?
If there are critical items that you need, they can access the DETech tool and Code of the Day through the download site with their grant number and then remove the encryption using DETech and pull off your documents before reimaging. Yes, your system will need to be reimaged, but they can remove the encryption to help recover any important data. Note that this tool is meant for IT use only and is not a tool that can be provided to you directly.
Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately my IT department have a policy of not decrypting drives so I'm stuck with the only option of reimaging and losing all my data.
That'll teach me for not backing up important documents!
