Update the number of sides reported in the OS boot sector

I'm having an issue with Dell Precision M4400 laptops with WD Scorpio SATA hard-drives. Essentially the machine will boot to the point of saying "Starting SafeBoot 5.1..." and will then hang with a blinking cursor. In reading another post on this site, someone mentioned enabling the "EEPC51 OPTION: Update number of sides reported in the OS boot sector" as a way to resolve the issue. I've been trying to find more information about this fileset, but have come up empty-handed. Does anyone have any data on what this option does?

RE: Update the number of sides reported in the OS boot sector

It is some compatibility files / settings for newer sata configurations. It is most commonly required on the Dell E series laptops.

If you look in the bios and the sata operation is set for IRRT or SATA RAID, it is likely that you will need this file set for safeboot to operate.
