I was trying to remove Safeboot to recover some data from a laptop hard drive on a laptop that had a hardware failure. These are the steps that I took:
1) Remove the drive and connect it to another working machine (desktop) via SATA-USB
2) Started doing Safeboot 4.2 decrypting which took 2 weeks (no joke) and went only upto 70% - I never seen decryption take more than 16-20 hours, even for large drives
3) My team had to use this desktop for something else and I stopped the decryption process and now get the error when trying to load values from disk
Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to restart the decryption process.
possibly the drive has some bad sectors, or maybe your SATA>USB interface is slow.
The error means SafeBoot is not installed - which means something cleared the MBR.
What state is the drive in now? Have you tried booting it? I guess you could find where encryption finished by inspecting the sectors, and then decrypt the end, but have you checked to see if encryption did indeed stop? is the end of the partition encrypted still?
you'll have to just visually inspect the sectors - it's probably worth checking those at the beginning of the partition as well to check the correct key was used.
Not sure I know of any - it would have been covered by any training your company purchased along with the product. Sorry - not something I think exists online.
