We have SafeBoot v5.1 on our laptops. Recently installed it on a new laptop and the eu has many files that need to be backed up. Basically, the Dell e6500 POSTs, but right after it reads out chipset info and such and then displays "Starting SafeBoot v5.1" \n "Please wait...' and it freezes here with a blinking _ cursor.
The drive is fully encrypted and i was looking for how to make a "SafeTech" boot disc, but to no avail because i believe that is for McAfee EE only?
Long story short - how can i decrypt the hdd to acces these files (via windows xp or BartPE disc). If i can get those files off and then nuke it, no big.
with the Dell E series, we had to create a fileset with the feature "Report number of sides of the OS" turned on. you dont want to turn this on for all systems, just ones that have that problem. Just create a fileset specifically for the dell eseries.
WinTech will give you this ability but as Thundercat said, Safetech will work just as well as it is the same product. I myself prefer to use SafeTech over WinTech every time purely because of how handy it is to have 'Emergency Boot'. wink
On the e6400 we needed to switch the drive mode in BIOS from IRRT to SATA / ATA on version 5.1.6 of MEE. I believe later versions support IRRT mode, but what you're describing is exactly what happened to us - hanging at boot. As soon as we switch drive mode in BIOS, works like a charm.
Oh dear, I did look at this in the BIOS and wondered whether it'd make nay difference, but this solution bring a bigger problem for me, I have serveral other Dell E series (6400s)machines possibly configured in the same way, when you change the drive config as you have suggested, you need to re-install the whole laptop it seems as the OS will not boot after you make the change......
Any other ideas anyone? Can I somehow import the "Report number of sides of the OS" option into the File groups in 5.1.5 maybe?
