SSO Details Lost During v4.2.15 Upgrade to v5.2.3

I have a problem where user's SSO details are lost after upgrade from v4.2.15 to v5.2.3. SSO was working great in v4.2f client. All the options for SSO details including Must Match Windows User name are selected. The machine performs the first syncrhonization upgrading to v5.2.3 and reboots. The user enters their credentials at the v4.2.15 logon screen and is asked again for the Windows credentials. After successful Windows authentication, reboot, and second upgrade sync, SSO starts to work again for the user. Same password without any changes. Does anyone have any KB articles or experience with this problem? Is this expected behavior?  The MEE password policy is way less restrictive than the Windows password policy.
