I have fully encrypted disk with 2 partitions (McAfee EndPoint Encryption) on my notebook.
I am usually scanning my hard drive for bad sectors and yesterday the software provided by FUJITSU (my HDD is Fujitsu) detected ~18 bad sectors.
So made the mistake to fix them, and here I am
Now my system boots the McAfee login screen, then I am able to authenticate via my 6 digit pin, and then the situation is:
Could you give me any advice ?
Can I extract my information by using another PC attaching the failed HDD to it by using the tools provided by Simon in his blog, instead of creating WinPE bootable media?
If not, what else I can do to rescue my data? I don't care so much about the OS, however it would be nice if I can save myself another ~12 hours installing software, tools and restoring ~3month old backups.
Yeah.. once a guy writing a backup software said "A backup is never recent enough when you need it" or something like that :]]

I apologize, the version is 5.xx.
Your IT department will be able to decrypt the disk, or better still, you can make an image of it and then decrypt that. Once decrypted, you can use any of the normal data recovery tools...
My guys at the "IT department" which is actually some call center in India officialy does not support McAffee except that they reset passwords and such similar things.
Despite that, this software is mandatory for the organization. Kewl yeah?
The thing is that I am not exactly sure how to decrypt the image that I will create.
What software / format shoud I use to create this image? And then what sw exactly should I use to decrypt it?
May I use simple bit by bit copy, for example the *nix "dd" ?
Thanks.
In addition - why there is no rescue disk for this app, like for example the TrueCrypt recovery options

There is - your IT team have it.
Thanks.. I'll check that on.. Monday
You can use Ghost with options to perform raw disk format and ignore errors.
But you need to access WinTech tools, McAfee daily code and exported machine information for your system.
Do you have those already?
Hello,
Unfortunately my support is unable to provide me the XML from the ePO, however I have successfuly created the bootable CD.
May I ask what is the option in the boot menu "Options>Options>Boot tab>Boot from floppy" is made for? Can I use it to boot with FDD and execute checkdisk?
