Got a bad problem, after Mcafee update and reboot my Win 7 pc would not start up, tried to do a repair but it cant find any filesystem.
So helpdesk say reinstall it, well problem is my backup is corrupt and I would like to retrive some pics and mails on it before rebuild it.
And I could have added DVD and try to do repair BUT encryption is in the way then.
So Q, how can I start an repair install after logged on to encryption or is it possible to remove encryption even when out of filesystem?
I have ofcourse valid encrytion and pwd token.
However when logging on and go repair, and dos prompt, trying to start win 7 dvd in it says subsys needed to support image not present?
Anyone have any idea how to retrive that data?
Or am I smoked?
It is an HP laptop pretty new running win7
Your help desk can recover your data, or remove the encryption, but it's not something you can do without their assistance.
You are right that the standard windows tools won't touch an encrypted drive.
Sorry. There's a bunch of recovery options, but all require the support of your company. Without them behind you the data is locked away still.
What's the exact problem you are having? Have you tried "last known good configuration"?
Problem now is that I have no filesystem so nothing works in retrive as long as I cant boot up from dvd
and cant do that as long as the encrytion is active, so I guess I have to rebuild from scratch...
How did you trash the "file system" ? I think you might mean you broke the boot sector - do you not get the eepc preboot screen anymore?
But regardless, it's still recoverable by your help desk. If you don't have the preboot it's absolutely not recoverable without them any more. If the preboot was there, it would have been if you could get hold of the dr tools.
No pre boot - only your helpdesk can recover the data.
Got an mcafee update, then after reboot it was not possible ro get up running tried sys repair but it say bootsector is invalid.
so I start op pc, logon to encryption, then win try start but it just hangs
starting adv settings and dispart it says whole disk is raw, no fs exist
odd - you'd think since we distribute those updates world wide, more people would have been affected
If you still have a working pre-boot authentication environment, it's possible for you to fix it if you can get the tools (which I can't supply you) and the knowhow (which I can't tell you). Your helpdesk has both of course.
