We have issue upgrading to EEPC 5.2.8 on client side. Sourc client is working EEPC 5.2.4 or EEPC 5.2.5. User authentication is done by GemSafe Expresso Certificate Smart Card and working.
After upgrade to 5.2.8 Smartcard based authentication in pre boot environment is not working anymore. Selecting right login window, username and PIN are inserted and also smartcard is in reader and after pressing enter ther is very short "thinking" time and it asks to insert smartcard (Token name is right) and thats it. If you press Enter again then it just will show the same question again. There is no difference if there is right or wrong pin.
Laptop itself is HP Elitebook 6930p with latest BIOS and Windows XP SP3.
We have also case opened in McAFee support, but so far we don't know where the issue is or what it could be.
We created separate new installation set with 5.2.8 and this has the same behaviour on the same PC. So far we have tested upgrade on 20 PC and only one suceeded on Fujitsu S7110. We also got one laptop where upgrade failed but fresh OS install and new installation of EEPC 5.2.8 suceeded.
How and what to debug or may be somebody knows what has changed in EEPC 5.2.8 related to smartcard login in pre boot environment?
Solved! Go to Solution.
have you tried upgrading but NOT changing the token file group? You might also want to try turning on "always enable USB" - what smart card reader are you using with this token?
Hello, we have did upgrade in two different way. 1) We replaced all filegroups attached to PC from 5.2.5 -> 5.2.8. 2) We replaced only EE 5.2.5 Client files with EE 5.2.8 Client files and the result was the same. With support we tested always enable USB also and didn't help.
For example in HP 6930p we have one PCMCIA reader and one express card. From safeboot USB and PCMCIA are enabled.
I don't think it's wise to deploy the USB reader unless you need it - There were a lot of changes in 5.2.8 to solve BIOS bugs in some laptops - you might be getting caught out by a repurcussion of that.
This is'nt a question for your issue really, but as you've just upgraded to 5.2.9 I thought I'd ask what you !
With 5.2.9 are you seeing new client file groups in EEM ?
