I've installed the EEFF V22.214.171.124 and the encryption of files worked as expected. However, when I tried to attach a particular encrypted file into an email (eg. gmail), this encrypted file becomes unencrypted. I have the understanding that when a file is encrypted, it should stay encrypted wherever it may be sent to.
Is it a setting in the policy that need to be defined (for email, or im etc) when creating the install set? Can anyone kindly advise me? Thanks.
by defualt it will be decrypted..
you have to change policy and have to put process name in Exclusion (ie. outlook.exe)
Thanks for for response. I'm a newbie, so can you kindly provide the steps involved?
Where is the Exclusion screen/tab found? Is it under EMM -> Policies -> Properties -> Encryption Options -> Blocked Processes?
I'm testing using gmail, notes and owa, so what are the processes names to be excluded?
yes, Blocked process
and you can use iexplorer.exe as you are using broweser. ( if you are using other broser than check in task manager and add that process name in blocked processes)
it became unencrypted because an application read it - same idea as if you were to open the file in Word etc. Only file type activity preserves the encryption, if you open the data and translate it to another format (like a MIME attachment to an email, or burn it to a CD) it will get transparently decrypted unless the application is on the "bypass" list as explained earlier.
