Not if you reused the same object for the new activation, no.

Maybe get the key from an older backup of the db prior to the machine refresh?

Update: The case is closed, McAfee support can't help with this problem. Last statement was that I tried to decrypt the wrong disk, which is definitely not true. The supporter told me that the start sector 2048 means I tried to decrypt a system partition (Windows 7) and not the external HDD...
