Upgrade Groupshield Exchange 7.0.716.103 to MSME 8.0

Jump to solution

Hi,

I need to upgrade our server running server 2003 and exchange 2007 to MSME 8.0.

Currently running

Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2

Exchange Server 2007 SP4

McAfee GroupShield for Exchange

Product Version  7.0.716.103

Service Pack  SP1

Hotfixes  HF551487

The product guide says I can upgrade from the following but the versions but the version number seem to be in a slightly different format to what I have. Also Groupshield for Exchange is no longer listed as a download under my products so I can't download any upgrade.

• GroupShield for Exchange 7.0.1 hotfix release HF725138

• GroupShield for Exchange 7.0.2 hotfix release HF722718

When I try to install MSME 8.0 it says:

I do have an EPO server but I am trying to do a standalone install of MSME as that is what I had with groupshield, I don't really see the point of using EPO when I only have a single exchange server.

The installer has detected McAfee GroupShield for exchnage 7.0.1. For upgrading please for to the installation Guide and Readme.

the hotfixes for gse 7 are no longer available.  what you can do instead is the following.

go into the gse gui under settings & diagnostics and click on import/export config

export the config (this will create a .cfg file)

uninstall gse 7

run the msme 8 setup and click through till you get to the "additional configuration Settings"

select the "import existing config" and browse to the cfg file you exported

click through the rest of the install wizard and let msme get installed.

once done it will now have the previous config settings in place which is all the upgrade would have done.

also make sure that you download and apply the msme 8 hot fixes listed on the Patches tab from the product download site.

You're on a much earlier version of gse 7 than what msme requires for upgrading.  at this point the best option is to remove gse and then install msme after that.

What version am I on? The number say I am on 7.0.716.103 but I need to be on 7.0.1 which seems to be lower?

you have 7.0.1 installed but you don't have the additional hot fix installed (725138) to be able to upgrade to msme 8 or 8.5.

Is it possible to get this Hotfix from McAfee so I can then install it to allow the upgrade?

OK thanks for your help. One last question, will I need to reboot between removing Groupshield and installing MSME or just reboot once MSME is installed?

by default a reboot isn't required in either case unless the install determines one is needed.  It sometimes can happen if a file is held in use.  if you want to do a reboot anyways then do it after msme is installed.
