Filtering file types

Jump to solution

Hello!

We filter certain e-mail attachments. In MSME there is the possibility to filter by file extension or file category.

Problem 1: Using both options at the same time does not work. When I activate a category, the filter by file extension is ignored.

Problem 2: I have added *.msg and *.eml to the exceptions (they should not be filtered). Unfortunately, attached emails (i.e. an email as attachment) will continue to be filtered. Is there a solution?

Basically we could manage with filters according to categories. Unfortunately, the filter for WORD documents does not distinguish between *.doc or *.docx. Doc documents are dangerous and must be filtered.

Thank you in advance!

problem1: using both options produces an 'and' statement so for it to trigger the filter properly, the file extension and the file type must match.  this is not the recommended approach.  a better approach is to setup a separate filter for extensions and one for file type.

problem 2: remove *.msg or *.eml filters.  what you would want to filter for is the actual attachments inside the email (that includes emails that are attachments as well).

with regards to docx.. those are in reality archives and msme is designed to look inside the file and scan the files inside.  so adding file and/or category filters would be sufficient to keep out unwanted content.
