Enhanced Web Control Protection

Key benefit: Flexible configuration, and ease of use, to ensure secure web browsing

Endpoint Security Web Control improves on McAfee Site Advisor Enterprise with updated Web Control browser toolbars to improve user experience. Integration of Web Control with Threat Prevention using Global Threat Intelligence™ ensures users safe, reputable, web browsing, and secure browser file downloads.

Web Control notifies users of threats while they search or browse websites.

Security administrators can prevent disabling of browser plug-ins, control access to sites, pages, and downloads, based on safety rating or type of content. Identify sites as blocked or allowed, based on URLs and domains. Customize notifications that appear when users attempt to access a blocked website, and create detailed reports of website usage.  Endpoint Security Web Control supports user based policies, making it easy to configure customized security policies and user controls.

Full Integration with McAfee Client Proxy to provide a secure, seamless browser experience.

How safety ratings are compiled

McAfee Labs determines safety ratings using extensive security criteria, then evaluates results to detect common threats.

Automated tests compile safety ratings for each website by:

  • Downloading files to check for viruses and potentially unwanted programs bundled with the download.
  • Entering contact information into sign-up forms and checking for resulting spam or a high volume of non-spam email sent by the site or its affiliates.
  • Checking for excessive pop-up windows.
  • Checking for attempts by the site to exploit browser vulnerabilities.
  • Checking for deceptive or fraudulent practices employed by a site.

McAfee Labs Web Security team compiles test results into safety reports that may also include:

  • Feedback submitted by site owners, which might include descriptions of safety precautions used by the site or responses to user feedback about the site.
  • Feedback submitted by site users, which might include reports of phishing scams or bad shopping experiences.
  • Ongoing, Real-time analysis by McAfee Labs web security experts.
  • The McAfee GTI server stores site ratings and reports.

McAfee Client Proxy and web protection

Key benefit: Detect unknown threats before reaching endpoints

Endpoint Security Web Control fully integrates with McAfee Client Proxy (MCP) to route web traffic at the port level, outside of the browser, filtering all non-browser initiated traffic as well. When MCP is enabled, local web control protection defers to web proxy threat determination. Endpoints running MCP will route all internet traffic to McAfee Web Protection gateway appliance or McAfee Cloud Protection service. Granular User-based policies can be configured for endpoints on or off corporate-networks. MCP is available for both Windows and Mac OSX endpoints.
