Intel Security SNS ProTip for Drive Encryption: Booting to Safe Mode on an Encrypted Machine

Occasionally systems will experience an issue in which it is required to boot to Windows Safe Mode to remediate the problem. Typically this is done by pressing F8 after the BIOS splash screen. However, with McAfee Drive Encryption installed, the Preboot environment will load rather than Windows. Because of this, the user must first authenticate at preboot and Safe Mode can be accessed by pressing F8 immediately after authentication at Preboot once the “Resetting Hardware…” line of text is presented on the screen.
