How To Fix File Associations in Windows

Sometimes after dealing with an infection or even after installing or uninstalling software Windows forgets default file associations and keeps asking you which program to use to open a certain file type (e.g. .exe)....

This can be fixed as follows:

To fix file associations in XP run the file association fix on former MVP Doug Knox’s site http://www.dougknox.com/. Go to Win XP Fixes section, then look for File Association Fixes.
