Advice on Clustering

Differences between using a Backup or a Secondary

Primary with Backup - This is a failover cluster with load balancing. Failover is provided by the virtual IP (cluster IP) address.

Primary with Secondary - it is a load balancing cluster WITHOUT failover. No takeover when primary node fails. The Secondary will never become the Active node

Primary with both Backup and Secondary - it is a load balancing cluster with failover. Again, the Secondary will never become the Active node
