How to tag Pre-Existing Files

Greetings Folks,

I have a folder full of documents that I would like to have a "Confidential" tag. How can i automate applying that tag to all the files in the folder?

Using HDLP 9.2

Thanks!

Re: How to tag Pre-Existing Files

Use manual tagging: go to the folder concerned then CTRL-A, right-click and choose 'Manual Tagging' then choose your tag from the list. Finally click [OK] to apply.

To enable the option have a look at this KB, https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB68160

Re: How to tag Pre-Existing Files

Thanks for the feedback Chris. There are over 1000 files in said folder and I was really looking for a way to automate the tagging process. Do you know is there a way I can do that?

Re: How to tag Pre-Existing Files

THe files are in a standard windows file share( \foo\blah\blah\*)

They are a mix of xls, ppt  and pdf

No discernible common criteria that I know of other than they are sensitive

Re: How to tag Pre-Existing Files

Ok.

1. Create a tag called  "Confidential" in your "DLP policy"  console.

2. Create, in tagging rules section, a location based taging rule, pointing on that share that will tag those files with "confidential" tagg.

3. Verify the outcome of the rule with "manual tagging" option.
