DLP, Windows 10, and multiple users

Jump to solution

HI.  OK.  I have DLP deployed to five or so devices and use it to control read/write access to CD/DVDs and other removable media.  Generally, it works great.

We do have a problem, though.  We move multiple users through these systems and, for the most part, it isn't an issue as most of the user base is not allowed to transfer data.  The problem comes when we have a user who needs to transfer data.  It seems that DLP is getting confused by the different users.  The reason I think that is twofold:

  • whenever a new user logs on, they receive a message that indicates they inserted a CD/DVD and that it has been blocked
  • when that user is an authorized data transfer agent, they still get that message.  when they reboot, though, they are able to transfer the data

I'm guessing I have misconfigured the policy but, for the life of me, I cant' figure it out.  Any information would be helpful.

Thanks.

This was not the fix but it got me into the right frame of reference.  It turns out the alerts were for something else.  I've modified those rules and it seems to have resolved the issue.

Thanks a lot!

So if I understand correctly, the CD\DVD Rule is still triggering for Authorized Users. It requires troubleshooting to validate the rule and policy settings. We need to verify the Incident details as well. One quick check is to create a basic rule and select the user (Authorized) and test. Make sure to remove that user from Authorized list first before testing. Later on for more troubleshooting, you can execute DLP Diagnostic Tool and verify the settings on client machine.

Check your ruleset reaction for this rule - Device Rule and disable "Report Indent"
